How Does My Climate Control System Work?

Climate Control is a system in your vehicle that has managing functions in the passenger room.

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system (HVAC) system or Climate Control system of your vehicle has a number of functions, including

  • Providing heat

  • Defrosting and de-fogging

  • Providing fresh (filtered) air to the cabin

  • Cooling and dehumidifying the cabin air with conditioned (refrigerated) air.

Select the vehicle model from the relevant Owner’s Manual for your further information.

Automatic Control

You can find details of automatic climate control as below.

Left-hand Temperature Control

Adjusts the temperature setting on the left-hand side.

Fan Speed Control

Adjust the volume of air circulated in the vehicle.

Right-hand Temperature Control

Adjusts the temperature setting on the right-hand side. This control also adjusts the left-hand side temperature when you switch off dual zone mode.

Max A/C (If Equipped)

Press for maximum cooling. The right-hand and left-hand settings set to LO, recirculated air flows through the instrument panel vents, air conditioning turns on and the fan adjusts to the highest speed.

Heated Windshield (If Equipped)

Press the button to clear the windshield of thin ice and fog.The heated windshield turns off after a short period of time.
Note:  Make sure that the engine is running before switching the heated windshield on.
Note:  The system does not operate if the battery charge level is low.

Recirculated Air

Press to switch between outside air and recirculated air. The air currently in the passenger compartment recirculates. This may reduce the time needed to cool the interior (when used with A/C) and reduce unwanted odors from entering your vehicle.

Heated Seats (If Equipped)

Press to cycle through the various heat settings and on and off.

Heated Seats

Press the heated seat symbol to cycle through the various heat settings and off. More indicator lights indicate warmer settings.

A/C

Press to switch the air conditioning on or off. Use air conditioning with recirculated air to improve cooling performance and efficiency.
Note: In certain conditions (for example, maximum defrost), the air conditioning compressor may continue to operate even though you switch off the air conditioning.

Power

Press to switch the system on and off. When the system is off, it prevents outside air from entering the vehicle.

Auto

Press to switch on automatic operation, then adjust the temperature control to select the desired temperature. The system adjusts fan speed, air distribution, air conditioning operation, and outside or recirculated air adjust to heat or cool the vehicle to maintain the desired temperature. You can also switch off dual zone mode by pressing and holding the button for more than two seconds.

Heated Rear Window (If Equipped)

Press to switch the heated rear window on and off.

Press the button to clear the rear window of thin ice and fog. The heated rear window turns off after a short period of time.
Note: Do not use harsh chemicals, razor blades or other sharp objects to clean or remove decals from the inside of the heated rear window. The vehicle warranty may not cover damage to the heated rear window grid lines.

Defrost

Press to distribute air through the windshield air vents and de-mister. The system switches off the air directed to the instrument panel and footwell air vents. You can also use this setting to defog and clear the windshield of a thin covering of ice.

Max Defrost

Press to switch on defrost. The left-hand and right-hand settings set to HI, air flows through the windshield vents, and the fan adjusts to the highest speed. You can also use this setting to defog and clear the windshield of a thin covering of ice. The heated rear window also turns on when you select maximum defrost.
Note: To prevent window fogging, you cannot select recirculated air when the maximum defrost is on.

Power

Press to switch the system on and off. When the system is off, it prevents outside air from entering the vehicle.

Air Distribution Control

Press to switch airflow from the windshield, instrument panel, or footwell vents on or off. You can distribute air through any combination of these vents.

Temperature Control

Adjusts the temperature of the air circulated in your vehicle.

Max Defrost

Turn to switch on defrost. Air flows through the windshield vents and the fan adjusts to the highest speed. You can also use this setting to defog and clear the windshield of a thin covering of ice. The heated rear window also turns on when you select maximum defrost.
Note: To prevent window fogging, you cannot select recirculated air when maximum defrost is on.
