How Do I Start A Vehicle If The Key Battery Is Flat?

If the passive vehicle key is inoperative because of a flat key battery or a fault, the vehicle can be started as follows:

  1. Place your key in the position indicated in your owners manual - this is usually in the centre console or by the steering column
  2. On vehicles with an automatic transmission, make sure that the transmission is in P (Park) or N (Neutral) and the brake pedal is fully depressed.
  3. On vehicles with a manual transmission, make sure that the clutch pedal is fully depressed.
  4. Press the start button until the engine starts.
