Manila, Philippines — Employees and retirees of the US-based Ford Motor Company along with their counterparts on six continents including local subsidiary Ford Group Philippines volunteered their time and skills to make a positive impact in their respective communities under the "Ford Global Week of Caring." The worldwide Ford initiative, running on its second year, is a week-long celebration during which Ford employees and retirees engage wide range of community activities, from creating gardens at a facility for the mentally challenged in Spain to building homes under Habitat for Humanity in the U.S.
"Despite the difficult challenges we face today, the business case for community service is stronger than ever," said Ford Motor Company president and chief executive officer Alan Mulally. "Volunteering helps us strengthen our corporate brand, build high performance teams and attract employees, customers and investors. It is the right thing to do, for ourselves, our communities and our business."
In the Philippines, Ford’s "Global Week of Caring” was kicked off via a tree-planting activity in Luneta Park. This was made possible in collaboration with Clean and Green Foundation, one of the grantees in the 2006 Ford Conservation and Environmental Grants Program. Clean and Green chair, former First Lady Amelita Ramos, and Manila City Mayor Alfredo Lim graced the activity. Some 50 Ford Philippines employees, led by FGP president Rick Baker, planted native trees in the Diorama Light and Sound area at the Rizal Park.
During the same week, employees donated blood for cancer-stricken youngsters at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center, donated medicines and foodstuff to the Mary Mother of Mercy Home for the Elders in Laguna and conducted a medical-dental mission in Laguna. The celebration was capped by a walkathon, the proceeds of which were donated to Aeta students of Jeanie School and to the Mother of Mercy Home for the Elders.
During the Philippine celebration, Ford likewise launched the “I Volunteer” which sought to further sustain the involvement of Ford volunteers in projects of non-profit organizations that address environmental, health, education and safety concerns.
“The spirit of volunteerism is so much alive at Ford. We value our relationships with our stakeholders even as we continually recognize our responsibility to society and to the environment. This view is shared not only by Ford employees in the United States and other parts of the world. I have actually seen this concern in action here in the Philippines,” shared FGP president Rick Baker.

Ford Embarks on Global Week of Caring
As Ford continues its century-old legacy as one of the world’s automotive leaders, the company also prioritizes helping members of the community who are in need the most.
For Ford and its employees, showing concern and caring for others in the community is an important part of the company’s operations and success. It is for this very reason why Ford instituted a “Global Week of Caring”, where hundreds of windows of opportunities open to lend a helping hand.
All over the world, Ford Motor Company has started the drive to aid others through this initiative garnering more than 2,900 volunteers to do generous acts such as help build homes, donate blood, tidy up public places like city parks and beaches, raise funds, collect food, clothing and other essential items. After contributing over 17,000 hours of volunteer work, these selfless individuals have achieved something quite remarkable: they have raised nearly $600,000, donated 44 computer sets, and built some 27 homes. Their collection drives also generated more than 45,000 toys for children, 300 pounds of food, and 200 bags of clothing, blankets, school supplies, canned goods and toiletries.
Here in the Philippines, Ford Group Philippines initiated two projects for the Global Week of Caring. The spirit of volunteerism in Ford’s employees shone through their selfless involvement to lend a helping hand to the members of the community who needed caring and assistance the most.

One of the projects initiated for the Global Caring Week is the “Piso para kay Lolo at Lola” fund raising for the elderly at the Mary Mother of Mercy Home for the Elders. The project has been running for four years now and is held quarterly throughout the year. For this round of the campaign, some 32 needy elders received various items from Ford volunteers such as clothing, toiletries, and many more.
Another project was the medical and dental mission at Barangay Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Ford partnered with United Laboratories Inc., Glaxo Smithline Corp., Gentrix Pharmaceutical, Nestle Philippines and Fortmed to provide medical assistance to nearly 500 underprivileged people.
Ford hopes that through the Global Week of Caring, others will be inspired to constantly reach out to their less fortunate neighbors. For Ford, the future only looks brighter as more people join the drive in helping improve the lives of the country’s marginalized communities.
Ford Supports Leyte Landslide Victims
At a moment’s notice, Ford Philippines’ Partners Pillars immediately engaged their co-employees to extend their generosity to those affected by the landslide in Leyte by donating relief goods via the ABS CBN Foundation. This initiative follows Ford Philippines’ earlier donation of two Ford Rangers to DSWD that was deployed in Leyte to transport goods to affected areas.
Ford employees, through their own efforts and the support of Ford management, did their share in helping those affected by the landslide by donating 5 sacks of rice, noodles, canned goods, laundry and bath soap, old clothes and other goods needed by those affected. The collected goods were brought to the ABS CBN Foundation, who took care of delivering the goods to Leyte.
This initiative is part of Ford’s Corporate Social Responsibility program that ensures Ford remains committed to reaching out to their communities, especially those who need it the most.
Ford Extends Aid to Typhoon Victims via Red Cross
Ford Group Philippines recently donated P3-million, which consisted of two 4x2 XLS Ford Rangers and P1.5 million in cash to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) as a way of reaching out to typhoon victims in the country's hardest hit areas. The donations were received by PNRC Chairman Richard Gordon during simple turnover rites at the Red Cross office in Port Area, Manila.
In the past weeks, the Philippines was ravaged by two super typhoons that caused tremendous loss of lives and damage to livelihood and property. Most affected areas were Nueva Ecija and Quezon provinces.
"We at Ford are deeply moved and concerned to see the sufferings of our fellow Filipinos as they bravely struggle to cope up with their losses and strive to put back their lives to normal in what typically would be a time of joy and celebration this Christmas", said Henry Co, President of Ford Group Philippines. The donation of Ford is likewise in response to the call of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for the business sector extend the much needed relief and rehabilitation assistance.

Ford Donates Engines to DSWD
Ford Group Philippines continues to live up to its commitment to give back to the community. All year long, Ford's company's employees are on the look out for ways on how to share their time and talents through community projects or donation activities.
Recently, Ford donated 10 engines to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Florina Vistal, Director for Corporate and Government Affairs of Ford Group Philippines, turned over the engine donations to Thelsa Violeza, Regional Director of DSWD. DSWD will be distributing these engines to schools with technical education courses.
DSWD Receives 2nd Round of Bikes from Ford Philippines
As part of its continuous effort to reach out to the less fortunate members of the community, Ford employees recently went out of their way to assemble more than 100 bikes for donation to the Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD).
This is the second year that Ford has donated bikes to DSWD. In 2003, Ford donated also more than 100 bikes that were turned over to DSWD, Sisters of Mary and Don Bosco, Sta. Rosa.
Following the ceremonial turnover to DSWD at the Ford plant in Sta. Rosa Laguna, the bikes will be distributed to DSWD residential centers and institutions in Luzon, reaching as far as the Bicol region. Recipient institutions include those that care for children, youth and women such as the Lake Caliraya Conservation Society, Philippine American Guardian Association, American Association of the Philippines and the American Chamber of Commerce Foundation of the Philippines.
The bikes are going to be used primarily as a mode of transportation for these centers and institutions since they are not easily accessible to public transport, especially in cases of emergency.
Community activities such as this bikes donation is just one among the many ways on how Ford is able to give back to the community.
"Being one with the community is a very important part of Ford's operations. We encourage and support the community projects that our employees initiate because we want them to live the corporate citizenship principles that our company upholds," said Binggay Vistal, Ford Group Philippines' VP for Government and Corporate Affairs.
OUR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - ISO 14001
Manila, Philippines, 30 August 1999 -- Ford Philippines received its ISO 14001 Certification from TUV Rheinland, a third party (certification) auditor. This means that experts outside of the company agree that Ford's plant in the Philippines is world-class in terms of environmental management. Working under the ISO 14001 framework, Ford is making significant improvements in energy use, waste disposal, and water treatment.
Ford Philippines now joins the rest of the Ford plants in the world that have been certified under the environmental standard ISO 14001. Ford became the first automaker to have all its plants worldwide certified in 1998. Achieving ISO 14001 certification highlights Ford's philosophy that environmental excellence is an element of both good business and corporate citizenship.
In March 1999, the Ford Philippines management team together with the ISO Core Team made a commitment to implement and certify the Ford Environmental System at its P4-billion plant located at the Greenfield Automotive Park in Santa Rosa, Laguna. And in only five months they achieved their target, to become the first plant in the Ford World to receive certification by launch.
